Many people know from their own experience that it’s not easy to install an Apache web server and it gets harder if you want to add MySQL, PHP and Perl. XAMPP is an easy to install Apache distribution containing MySQL, PHP and Perl. XAMPP is really very easy to install and to use – just download, extract and start.
At the moment there are four XAMPP versions:
- a version for Linux systems (tested for Ubuntu, SuSE, RedHat, Mandrake and Debian),
- a version for Windows 98, NT, 2000, 2003, XP and Vista,
- a beta version for Solaris SPARC (developed and tested under Solaris 8),
- and a beta version for Mac OS X.

Dreamweaver CS3 crashes and won’t start up again

Apparently, an install of Dreamweaver CS3 crashes if you edit a file to exactly a multiple of 8,192 bytes. Not a byte more, not a byte less. The chances of this happening are probably fairly small, to edit a file to the exact size and at the same moment DW does some processing stuff and doesn’t like what you’re giving it.
What you need to do is change the file size on the file that is causing the issue. In my case, I did a search in Windows ( *.css ) look for latest file around 8kb and read the properties. to see that its was indeed 8,192 bytes, I then edited the file in Notepad and just added a comment /* – DW 8192 Bug Fix –*/ and save the files. Then I was able to Start Dreamweaver CS3 again.
